The results are in! With a little preparation and the right gear, people of all ages and abilities can enjoy camping-by-bike from Santa Rosa. We rode from Spring Lake to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park for an overnight. Riders of all age and level joined us, riding all kinds of bikes. More details on the route we took and how we rode, and photos below.
Lunch in Kenwood!
Big time climb!
Cozy Quarters!
Co-pilot Flynn got an assist up the hill, not from an e-bike, but by outsourcing the heavy pedaling to his dad, Will. Flynn used his energy instead to keep us all safe with bell-ringing and traffic-directing services.
Adam, Oliver, and Bjorn took the SMART train to Santa Rosa to join us for the adventure!
P.S. Adam did the whole thing on a 27, 21, 10, no… a 1-speed bike!
Chris and Alexa needed electric assist to even consider such a journey, and they loved every minute of it!
Emily, Alexander, and the two teenagers (Eben and Griffin) used their own leg power to reach the 1300 ft campground, and then thought, “that wasn’t quite enough.” So they rode the the extra 3 miles and 1500 ft to the top of Bald Mountain. They report it was worth the view!
Alexander, Torina, and Myke just wanted to hang in the meadow and enjoy the sunset to moonrise sky.
Oliver was so tired from smiling that he used the ride home for some rest.
If you missed out this year, we plan to do a similar trip next summer, and we'd love to have you along. If you want to take your own trip to Sugarloaf in the meantime, you can find the routes and other important details here in this slide deck.
